Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! I am thankful to have my little loving family and such a gorgeous summer-like weekend. I don't think I can remember last time when we debated whether we wanted to go to the beach or for a nature walk in October. We...Read More
The last few days have been unseasonably hot. I told Adam on Sunday that this must be a sign. If we do not move to Florida, Florida will move to us. I wish this weather would stay, but by Friday it should get back to 'normal' of 14 degrees celsius. The radio told me so.
It is hot, but we know what's coming in a few short weeks, so we stayed outside as much as we could.
On the weekend, we went to the Riverwood Conservancy. It is a beautiful almost magical place. It is hard to believe that at some point the entire property belonged to one person as a summer home. Very quickly, as soon as we walked into the forest, my daughter imagined that it was the forest from the Little Red Riding Hood story and immediately started looking for the wolf. It was very cute. It was also very hot and very nice to hide under the trees from that sunshine.
So here is what you mamas need to know about this place:
Riverwood Conservancy | Location & Parking
It is a large property located just west of Erindale Go Station and is really hard to miss. There is a gigantic City of Mississauga: Riverwood Conservancy sign right out front. They have a few parking lots. There is a lower one, and main one, but I like to park in the Chapel House parking lot.
Riverwood Conservancy | Attractions
The main thing to do here is walking and hiking, so bring your all-terrain Uppabbays because you will need them. The flowers are gorgeous. There are a few bird feeders around that also attract squirrels, chipmunks and more that kids love to watch. The Chapel House on its own is a gem. It is very well manicured with lots of flowers and is a great picture background for any photoshoot. There is also a little pond with goldfish that my little one liked to watch. My daughter imagined, it was Little Red Riding Hood's Grandma's house, she loved walking around it and exploring. There is also a field nearby that could be used for a picnic or to kick a ball around.
Riverwood Conservancy | Washrooms
There are no stand alone public washrooms on the property, but I took my little one to the one at the Visual Arts Centre and it was great and clean. Worth mentioning that the centre itself was closed, but the bathrooms were open. It was air conditioned, so it was a nice little oasis on a hot day.
Riverwood conservancy is one of the must visit places in Missisauga. No, there is no playground with all the bells and whistles and no, there is no splash pad, but there are flowers, rocks, sticks, paths and fields to run around and explore. Hence, a great place for kids to be.
The people walking there also seemed very happy. We even saw people doing Tai Chi.
As much as I love hot weather, if I am completely honest with myself, I am looking forward a little to cooling down. Once it gets a little more bearable outside and a little less than 39 degrees Celsius, we might visit Riverwood Conservancy once again.
What if I said, that there is a FREE boot camp class that is also a networking and social support group for moms? If you are interested, keep reading!Read More

Before I got pregnant and before Adam and I had my daughter, we travelled. One of the magical places we visited was a lakefront restaurant in suburban Austria. I used to think I had to buy an airplane ticket to get a view and good food at the same place for a reasonable price and without a huge crowd. I was wrong.Read More
I used to love flying. Travelling is much harder now with a child. I question whether I still like it. Although my daughter was an angel through the entire experience, the excessive luggage made it really hard. First of all there was an entire third suitcase to worry about. There was also...Read More
On Friday night, four days before our flight to Florida, my daughter woke up with high fever. Tylenol did not help much. Advil got the fever down a bit. We called a doctor to come to our house that night, but cancelled around midnight because the fever seemed to be down and my daughter was sleeping. The next morning..Read More
